Miss Levin
Hello! My name is Ariana Levin and I will be your child's kindergarten teacher. I am very excited about this school year and look forward to assisting your children with their learning needs and preparing them for 1st grade and beyond. I am also looking forward to working in cooperation with you to make this school year a fun and successful learning experience for your child.
I am dedicated to the academic success of your children and strive to provide a classroom environment where they are encouraged and nurtured, but also challenged and held to firm expectations. The higher the bar is held, the more they will achieve, and seeing the strides they have made is a strong motivator for students to keep up their hard work. One of my goals is always to provide multiple methods for teaching concepts and skills because everyone learns differently. I also model and have students practice organization skills because a lack of organization is often an inhibitor in the thinking process as well as in accomplishing tasks.
I believe that a good learning experience is built on a cooperative effort between the parent/s, child, and teacher. You child will come home each Monday with a homework packet that must be completed and turned in on the Friday of that same week. As your child gets older, he/she will turn in homework daily rather than a packet by the end of the week. In order to prepare your child for that daily responsibility, I suggest that you assist your child is finding a time and place each day (preferably right after school and before play time) to sit down and complete the daily homework. This way, he/she will not fall behind on homework, and will engage in an appropriate amount of time each day in doing homework to review and practice their skills (30-35 minutes, plus reading material within his/her ZPD.). By doing this, you model for your child that homework always comes first, and you show that you are taking an active interest in their learning.
Many parents often wish to know what their child needs to know by the end of kinder, so I have made sure to attach links to our California Standards, as well as our Common Core Standards, under the Links bookmark. Each standard details what your child must learn before 1st grade, and is clearly broken down so you can monitor your child's progress throughout the year. Parents also ask what other reviewing they can do with their child at home- I always emphasize practicing basic letter and number recognition, printing, as well as sounds and spellings that follow our adopted Benchmark Reading program. For more suggestions on how to help your child at home, please click on the Parent Suggestions bookmark.
If you have any questions, feel free to send a note or stop by the classroom before or after school.
Let's have a great year!
